The Resurgence of Islamic Unity

The fourth huge kingdom of Nebuchadnezzar’s dream, as revealed to Daniel, was the mighty Roman Empire, which was symbolized by the two iron legs of the great statute viewed by the king in his dream. In its day, the Roman Empire was as strong and untied as iron in comparison to all the nations it conquered.

Daniel 2:40 – And the fourth kingdom shall be strong as iron: forasmuch as iron breaketh in pieces and subdueth all things: and as iron that breaketh all these, shall it break in pieces and bruise.

In the latter days, which I am confident we are now passing through, there was to arrive on the scene a set of 10 toes to complete the massive statue, only to finally see it crash to the earth, and to be replaced by the kingdom of God on earth. The 10 toes are the kings of verse 44.

Daniel 2:44 – And in the days of these kings shall the God of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.

The character of these kings, and the nations they head, is outlined in verses 41 to 43. They were to arise out of the territory that made up the empire of the two legs of iron, the ancient Roman Empire. Most Bible teachers of today bring them out of the northern half of the Roman Empire, but I have always clung to what Bible teachers of the 18th and 19th century believed, that they would be 10 Arab nations from the southern half of the empire. It would consist of such Arab nations as Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Sudan, Lebanon, Syria, Turkey, Iraq, the proposed Palestinian State, and Iran.

These mingled people have only been able to unite for a single period in history. They did it by following religion as introduced to them by the Prophet Mohammad in the Koran. It was their religious fervor for Allah that was responsible for their conquest of Spain, and most of the countries of southeastern Europe. The Islamic Empire, at its peak, stretched from Spain and Morocco, across North Africa, northward into southeastern Europe, and as far east as India. And, like most empires, they became well educated, highly cultured, and very prosperous in the upper crust of their society, which eventually caused their religions fervor for Allah and conquest to diminish. Their individual rulers became powerful, and began to fear uprisings to their authority by their masses, which led to harsh, dictatorial governments. The individual nations varied from powerful to very weak, and the weak were often taken over by the stronger. Those who make up the Islamic faith are Abraham’s descendants through the twelve sons of Ishmael and the six sons of Keturah. Intermingled among them, but largely concentrated in Jordan, are the descendants of Abraham’s nephew Lot, who was the father of Ammon and Moab, and Jacob’s brother Esau, also known as Edom. To further cloud the genealogical picture, there is also some of the blood of the ten northern tribes of Israel, which were carried into captivity by the Assyrians in about 712 B.C., plus there is the blood of some of the descendants of Noah that did not go through Abraham or Lot. They are a race that has, through mingling with the seed of non-descendants of Abraham, created a situation where uniting for war has always been a problem, due to their ethnic makeup and differences. There is only one thing that will unite them temporarily. It is the same thing that has fueled many wars – religious fervor. The 10 toes of Daniel’s great statue in these last days are going to unite and hold together as clay and iron long enough to defeat Israel in a vicious lightning religious Jihad from the north, under the banner of Islam. The following scriptures fit them like a glove.

Daniel 2:41-43 – And whereas thou sawest the feet and toes, part of potters' clay, and part of iron, the kingdom shall be divided; but there shall be in it of the strength of the iron, forasmuch as thou sawest the iron mixed with miry clay. [42] And as the toes of the feet were part of iron, and part of clay, so the kingdom shall be partly strong, and partly broken. [43] And whereas thou sawest iron mixed with miry clay, they shall mingle themselves with the seed of men: but they shall not cleave one to another, even as iron is not mixed with clay.

Some of them have the strength of clay, like Tunisia and Lebanon, while others, like Syria and Iran, have that of iron. In the phrase, “they shall MINGLE themselves with the seed of men,” the word MINGLE is the Hebrew word ARAB.

It is this kingdom of the antichrist that will dominate the known world of Daniel’s day for some three and one-half prophetic years, only to be replaced by the kingdom of God at the battle of Armageddon.

Recent events in the Middle East have infuriated Islam’s “man in the street” across all the Arab countries, and the Islamic clerics are taking full advantage of it to fuel the fire of an Islamic revival similar to that which eventually followed the death of Mohammad. The mosques across Islam are ringing loud and clear to unite, unite, unite, in the cause of Allah. There are some 1.3 billion Muslims, and religious fervor is the only thing that can cause them to unite and hold together long enough to defeat a Jewish population of just over five million in Israel. Watch the rhetoric intensity increase in many Islamic countries that have previously been relatively passive.

In the previous Prophecy Update I discussed the rise in Islamic fervor in Syria, which I believe will be the leader in the coming Jihad against Israel. The fundamentalism of radical Islam, which President Bahsar Assad’s father purged in 1982, is, as is the case in most secular Arab states, again raising its ugly head in the form of dramatic religious resurgence.

The article I quoted in the last Prophecy Update, quoted a message typical of sermons being delivered by young mullahs like Shiek Mahmoud al-Ghassi, who leads a mosque in the Syrian district of Saqhour. He was quoted as saying, “Islam is the only weapon required.” Some of his other statements in his sermon were as follows: “The Koran is stronger than America. Be prepared with all your strength.” By the time he finished, the article said many of the hundreds of worshippers were weeping. He went on to say, “you leaders and presidents, be worried about your thrones and your financial assets, because Islam will stay forever and no power on earth, whatever it dictates, whatever it mobilizes, can touch Islam.”

Watch the Arab world, particularly Syria. Fundamental Islamic fervor will continue to rise among the masses, and, in order to stay afloat, some of the leaders of more secular Arabic governments will have to climb on board, or lose their thrones in coups by radical Islamics. The 10 king’s crowns on the 10 horns of the beast in Revelation 13 will eventually be surrendered to the antichrist, such that no crowns appear on the horns of the same beast found in Revelation 17. God will put it in the hearts of the 10 Islamic kings to give the kingdom to the antichrist, unto God destroys them all at Armageddon.

Revelation 13:1 – And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

Revelation 17:12,13,17 – And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. [13] These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast. [17] For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled.

They will initially be successful in driving Israel into the Negev, where they will remain for 1260 days, but will be defeated by the Lamb of God when he returns with the faithful at the battle of Armageddon to begin his reign.

Revelation 12:6 – And the woman fled into the wilderness, where she hath a place prepared of God, that they should feed her there a thousand two hundred and threescore days.

Revelation 17:14 – These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful.

Revelation 19:20,21 – And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. [21] And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat on the horse,
