The Geneva Initiative – Munich 2 – “Peace in Our Time”

It is now becoming readily apparent that Operation Defensive Shield, launched in March 2001 after the Palestinian uprising began, is having a chilling effect on the Palestinian terror groups that first came out of the original Fatah terror group, which Arafat has always headed.  Now Arafat is willing to settle for what he once turned down, since it is becoming clear to him that the longer he waits, the less of the West Bank the Palestinians are going to receive in any settlement. But Arafat has not been able to control Hamas, the al-Aksa Martyrs Brigade, and Islamic Jihad for years.  But even these extreme terror groups are feeling the pressure of constant assault under Operation Defensive Shield, and may soon agree to accept the latest farce, the Geneva Initiative.  It would yield about as effective a peace as the one Neville Chamberlain brought back to England from Hitler’s Munich in Germany, promising “Peace in Our Times.”  Transportation Minister Lieberman said on Israeli Radio on Monday that it should not be signed in Geneva, but rather in Munich.  He said: “I would call it Munich 2.”

The Geneva Initiative required more than two years of negotiations, and was finally signed by Israeli Shahar Party leader Yossi Beilin and former Palestinian Authority minister Yassar Abed Rabbo.  The document was negotiated in Jordan, and included a broad range of delegates, among them two Fatah leaders, Kadura Fares and Muhammad Hurani.  The document does not represent either government, but is reported to be acceptable to PA Chairman Yassar Arafat and his latest Prime Minister, Ahmed Queri.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak called the plan “delusional” and criticized the Labor Party for allowing some of its members to be part of the Initiative.  This is rather odd on his part because the plan is quite similar to the one President Clinton and Ehud Barak came up with in late 2000, which Yassar Arafat rejected.

I could, at this time, lay out the details of this latest farce plan designed to bring peace to the Middle East, but it is simply another smoke screen and an attempt to show the world that wicked Israel does not really desire to have peace with the Palestinians.  Yassar Arafat, Fatah, Islamic Jihad, Hamas, al-Aksa Martyrs, and all the other splinter terrorist groups, are running scared, and this latest Geneva Initiative is simply “any port in a storm” on their part.  The U.S. and Israeli governments are about as likely to accept it, as the Boston Red Sox are likely to send valentines to the New York Yankees.

After almost three years of death and suffering that accelerated with the latest Palestinian uprising, only one thing is certain in this unpredictable, ever shifting scenario – only the return of the Messiah can bring a true and lasting peace to Israel for a thousand years.  This is, of course, true for all mankind, because of the inherited heart condition we received at birth from our forefather Adam. True peace will not come to Israel until God gives them a new heart.

Jeremiah 17:9 – The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?

Ezekiel 36:26-28 – A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. [27] And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. [28] And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

Amos 9:15 – And I will plant them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up out of their land which I have given them, saith the Lord thy God.
