Reaching Out Is the Work of Each Local Church

Dardanelle MBC has tried during the 29 years I have been her pastor, to reach out to as wide a spectrum as possible. I have preached in more than 700 churches, seminaries, colleges, and universities for the past 25 years while acting as pastor of this local church – They look upon this ministry as being an outreach of the Dardanelle MBC. We give more than twenty-four percent of our offerings into ABA missions, which we send directly to the sponsoring church or missionary. Our outreach into foreign counties through radio broadcasts into Europe, the Middle East, the North Atlantic, Africa, and Eurasia has been expensive, but more than worth the effort. Please forgive me if all this sounds like tooting our own horn, but I have heard rumors that we are a small isolated group with no outreach. I don’t attend the local functions in our area, and I skip many ABA meetings, because I do a revival every other week, a broadcast every week, pastor the church, issue Prophecy Updates on our web pages, and am 71 years old, tired, and worn out. Well, so much for all that – please forgive me for expressing my frustration with the lack of understanding by some in the ABA work. Really, my reason for this Update was to tell you about our outreach, which I am sure is inferior to many other churches, and I did not mean to brag about it. We also have an outreach to the nursing home in Dardanelle. We make a concerted effort to teach them about the marvelous Savior we know, and since most of those coming to hear us already know him, we try very hard to get them to understand the importance of serving him in the nursing home. A man or woman in the nursing home feels useless, because they have been cut off from the productive lives they once knew with their mates and children. We let them know that the usefulness they can perform in serving Christ, while in the nursing home, is perhaps greater than the service performed in their previous life before entering the nursing home. We teach them many things they can still do for their master, and remind them often of some of the Lord’s last words to Peter. We do two, one hour, services very week, one on Saturday, and the other on Sunday. I do the one on saturday, and Kenneth does the one on Sunday. I thank God for Ken Eubanks. We attended the Missionary Baptist Seminary together in Little Rock, and he has been a real friend to me for 29 years. He does it also on Saturday if I can’t get back in time from where I preached a revival that week. Brother Charles Trusty and Kenneth take turns filling in for me on the Wednesday nights I am away.

It is wonderful to have two sound preachers to fill in for you. And I thank God for the Dardanelle church members who come faithfully to all of the nursing home programs every week. They are a blessing and encouragement to both of us. Some of them are older than the ones in the nursing home, but I believe we can be of the greatest use to the Lord when we don’t have any strength left because of age, and have to allow him to give it to us by his amazing grace. I am finding what he told Peter to be the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.

John 21:18 – Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

I am including in this Update a sample of the type of message we present at the nursing home. You can see it contains the ingredients of salvation, security, and working for Jesus while you wait. Please pray for the church and myself. It will be greatly appreciated.

We are eternally saved by grace to do good works!

Ephesians 2:8-10 – For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: [9] Not of works, lest any man should boast. [10] For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.

We are waiting for the rapture and our new bodies!

I Corinthians 15:51 – Behold, I shew you a mystery; We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed,

We are watching for him when we work for him!

I Corinthians 15:58 – Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord.

We will be judged for the things done in our bodies!

II Corinthians 5:10 – For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.

We will be judged in heaven before his wrath on earth!

I Thessalonians 5:9 – For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

Revelation 11:18 – And the nations were angry, and thy wrath is come, and the time of the dead, that they should be judged, and that thou shouldest give reward unto thy servants the prophets, and to the saints, and them that fear thy name, small and great; and shouldest destroy them which destroy the earth.

Galatians 6:9 – And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.
