This study is about the last part of the phrase in Matthew 26: verse 24:
it had been good for that man if he had not been born.
Matthew 26: The Son of Man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto
that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that
man if he had not been born.
The purpose of this study is actually very simple. It shows that just as it had been "good that Judas Iscariot had not been born", it is also a very truthful statement that goes for all human beings who have never and will never be "born again" or "spiritually born again" through the heavenly spiritual birth. There eternal destiny will be a condemnation into the place of hades - hell and then into the state of punishment in the Lake of Fire.
The whole text related to this study:Matthew 26:
] Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,
And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto
you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.
] And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.
Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came
to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to
eat the Passover?
] And he said, Go into the city to such a
man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will
keep the Passover at thy house with my disciples.
] And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the Passover.
] Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.
] And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
] And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?
] And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.
The Son of Man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by
whom the Son of Man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had
not been born.
] Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.Mark 14:
] And Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went unto the chief priests, to betray him unto them.
] And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. And he sought how he might conveniently betray him.
And the first day of unleavened bread, when they killed the Passover,
his disciples said unto him, Where wilt thou that we go and prepare that
thou mayest eat the Passover?
] And he sendeth forth two
of his disciples, and saith unto them, Go ye into the city, and there
shall meet you a man bearing a pitcher of water: follow him.
And wheresoever he shall go in, say ye to the goodman of the house, The
Master saith, Where is the guestchamber, where I shall eat the Passover
with my disciples?
] And he will shew you a large upper room furnished and prepared: there make ready for us.
] And his disciples went forth, and came into the city, and found as he had said unto them: and they made ready the Passover.
] And in the evening he cometh with the twelve.
] And as they sat and did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, One of you which eateth with me shall betray me.
] And they began to be sorrowful, and to say unto him one by one, Is it I? and another said, Is it I?
] And he answered and said unto them, It is one of the twelve, that dippeth with me in the dish.
The Son of man indeed goeth, as it is written of him: but woe to that
man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he
had never been born.
John 3: There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that
thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that
thou doest, except God be with him.
 Jesus answered and
said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born
again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
 Nicodemus saith
unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second
time into his mother's womb, and be born?
 Jesus answered,
Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of
the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof,
but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every
one that is born of the Spirit.
Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?
Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that
whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is
condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only
begotten Son of God.
And this is the condemnation, that
light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light,
because their deeds were evil.
For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Romans 2: Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art
that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself;
for thou that judgest doest the same things.
But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.
And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things,
and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and
longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to
But after thy hardness and impenitent heart
treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation
of the righteous judgment of God;
Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
I Corinthians 1: For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
II Corinthians 2: Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph
in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in
For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:
To the one we are the savour of death unto death; and to the other the
savour of life unto life. And who is sufficient for these things?
For we are not as many, which corrupt the word of God: but as of
sincerity, but as of God, in the sight of God speak we in Christ.
II Thessalonians 2: And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved.
I Peter 1: Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.
For all flesh is as grass, and all the glory of man as the flower of
grass. The grass withereth, and the flower thereof falleth away:
But the word of the Lord endureth for ever. And this is the word which by the gospel is preached unto you.
Jude 1: For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.
The Eternal Punishment of Fire and Brimstone
Revelation 14: And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice,
If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his
forehead, or in his hand,
The same shall drink of the
wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the
cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and
brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the
And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for
ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the
beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name.
Revelation 19: And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a
loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven,
Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God;
That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the
flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on
them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and
And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth,
and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on
the horse, and against his army.
 And the beast was taken,
and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with
which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them
that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of
fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain
with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out
of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.Revelation 20:
] And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison,
And shall go out to deceive the nations which are in the four quarters
of the earth, Gog and Magog, to gather them together to battle: the
number of whom is as the sand of the sea.
] And they went up
on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints
about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven,
and devoured them.
] And the devil that deceived them was
cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false
prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever.
And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face
the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for
] And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before
God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is
the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which
were written in the books, according to their works.
the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered
up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according
to their works.
] And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire.
This is the second death.
] And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.
Revelation 21: But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and
murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all
liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and
brimstone: which is the second death.
